Часть текста: it was becoming abundantly clear that all those identical detectives in prismatically changing cars were figments of my persecution mania, recurrent images based on coincidence and chance resemblance. Soyons   logiques  , crowed the cocky Gallic part of my brainand proceeded to rout the notion of a Lolita-maddened salesman or comedy gangster, with stooges, persecuting me, and hoaxing me, and otherwise taking riotous advantage of my strange relations with the law. I remember humming my panic away. I remember evolving even an explanation of the “Birdsley” telephone call… But if I could dismiss Trapp, as I had dismissed my convulsions on the lawn at Champion, I could do nothing with the anguish of knowing Lolita to be so tantalizingly, so miserably unattainable and beloved on the very even of a new era, when my alembics told me she should stop being a nymphet, stop torturing me. An additional, abominable, and perfectly gratuitous worry was lovingly prepared for me in Elphinstone. Lo had been dull and silent during the last laptwo hundred mountainous miles uncontaminated by smoke-gray sleuths or zigzagging zanies. She hardly glanced at the famous, oddly shaped, splendidly flushed rock which jutted above the mountains and had been the take-off for nirvana on the part of a temperamental show girl. The agent of these interruptions was usually the Haze woman (who, as the reader will mark, was more afraid of Lo’s deriving some pleasure from me than of my enjoying Lo). The passion I had developed for that nymphetfor the first nymphet in my life that could be reached at last by my awkward, aching, timid clawswould have certainly landed me again in a sanatorium, had not the devil realized that I was to be granted some relief if he wanted to have me as a plaything for some time longer. The reader has also marked the curious Mirage of the Lake. It would have been logical on the part of Aubrey McFate (as I would like to dub that devil of mine) to arrange a small treat for me on the promised beach, in the presumed forest. Часть текста: Nabokov was precocious enough to think he had found a new species, only to have his dreams dashed. Undaunted, he set out on a life of butterfly hunting, interspersed with equally passionate forays into fiction. Nabokov not only realised his dream of finding a new species; he had several named after him. He became an authority on the taxonomy of a family known as the "Blues". "It is not improbable," he said, "that had there been no revolution in Russia, I would have devoted myself entirely to lepidopterology." To him, butterflies represented a form of immortality, whereby the asexual, shuffling caterpillar transmogrified after "death" into an aerial acrobat with the sexual potency to impart a physical presence to future generations. Although not avowedly religious, Nabokov suspected a conscious design to the world and thought it likely, according to his biographer, Brian Boyd, that there was some transformation of human consciousness beyond death. The astounding metamorphosis of ugly bug into beautiful, if ephemeral, butterfly epitomised this magical passage of the upwardly mobile soul. "We are the caterpillars of angels," he wrote. At Trinity College, Cambridge, Nabokov switched from natural sciences to French and Russian literature. Writing became his spouse, but lepidoptery was his mistress, with whom he spent summers in the montane regions of Europe and America. Nabokov's contribution to taxonomy is unquestioned. In addition to describing new species, he formulated a novel method of classification based on the counting of wing scales, with his beautiful illustrations reproduced in this new anthology. "If my first glance of the morning was for the sun, my first thought was for the butterflies it would engender." It was an unusual way to view the world, and one that not many readers - even those who adore Nabokov - may have fully appreciated. In fact, the ferocity of Nabokov's obsession with butterflies has only just been made clear to general readers with the publication of Nabokov's Butterflies, a fascinating volume of unpublished and uncorrected writings on the subject, edited by the Russian author's tireless biographer and critic Brian Boyd, with Robert Michael Pyle, an expert in butterflies. Мы обнаружили, что композиционной сутью романа являются специфические отношения между автором и персонажем, Лужиным, как автором защиты и черным шахматным конем, как персонажем этой защиты. Тема не явленная на поверхности текста, но отчетливо ощущаемая так же и в плоскости отношений Лужина, как персонажа романа и В. Набокова как его автора. Затем мы рассмотрели психологический портрет Лужина, его эволюцию и мотивационную основу его поступков, выявили психологическую необходимость фигурной метаморфозы сознания главного героя, порабощения персонажем его же "защиты". И далее, чтобы выйти к обобщающему анализу смыслового стержня явленной в романе мифологемы следует в контексте набоковского творчества проанализировать типологическую особенность реализации ряда тем в романе, проследить их литературную преемственность и новизну. Рассмотрим наиболее возможные в биографическом и наиболее насыщенные в тематическом плане примеры сопрочтения исследуемого романа с предшествующими художественными произведениями. Следует еще раз отметить, что проза В. Набокова вообще, и роман «Защита Лужина» в частности, пронизаны тематическими, художественно-стилистическими и пр. аллюзиями и реминисценциями создающими своеобразный задник произведения, сообщающий ему объем, глубину и насыщенность, актуализирующий полноту оттенков детали, вводящий новые их звучания и интонации, лежащие за пределами самого текста. Поговорим о литературных влияниях. Рассмотрим «Защиту Лужина» как критико-игровую интерпретацию предшествующих текстов, актуализирующую определенные литературно-тематические традиции и предлагающую новое их продолжение. Не забывая о вполне справедливых высказываниях В. Набокова о природе литературных влияний, с одной стороны, и не пренебрегая их значимостью для контекстного, конкретно исторического...
